The behavior of 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DSPC) was studied in spontaneous revesiculation used in preparation of liposomes uncontaminated with residues of organic solvents or surfactants. Cyclic voltammetry at hanging Hg drop electrode, nephelometry and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the aggregation of DSPC. Changes in current and potential of voltammetric charging peaks, similar to those due to formation of micelles in surfactant solutions, were investigated at certain concentrations of phospholipids in neutral phosphate buffer. Simultaneously, changes in turbidity of DSPC solutions were recorded. These concentrations have been characterized as critical aggregation concentrations (0.07–0.10 and 0.19–0.24 mmol l-1).
