Abstract

A simple static headspace capillary gas chromatography (GC) method using a flame ionization detector has been developed for determination of 0.04–10 ppm of vinyl chloride (VC) in PVC. The method makes it possible to determine VC by dispersing a PVC sample in dimethylacetamide and analyzing the vapor by headspace GC. A standard addition method was used to calibrate the response. Due to the limit of quantification (LOQ = 0.042 ppm), the presented static headspace capillary GC-FID analysis is a reliable method for the determination of 1 ppm of VC in PVC.
