Abstract

The paper provides an overview of various heterogenous catalysts used in acylation reactions. The reactions are an important and efficient tool in organic chemistry for preparation of aromatic ketones, which are at present prominent intermediates in production of fine chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dyes, pesticides, and perfumes. The advantages and drawbacks of various types of heterogenous catalysts are discussed and related to the properties of homogenous catalysts employed for the same type of reactions. The effects of the used substrates, acylation agents and catalysts on activities and selectivities in acylation reactions are discussed. Special attention is paid to shape-selective properties of molecular sieve catalysts.
