Abstract

This work was focused on studying cyclic hydrocarbons behaviour during pyrolysis using the laboratory pyrolysis gas chromatography. Cyclopentane, cyclohexane, cyclopentene, cyclohexene, decaline and several mono-, di- and tri- substituted cyclohexanes were selected for this study to allow watching the cracking selectivity in relation to the size of cycle, the number and length of substituents on the ring, the present of double bond and the number of cycles in the hydrocarbon molecule. The behaviour of tested compounds was studied on the basis of laboratory experiments carried out under lower temperature (640-750 °C) and short residence time to enable observation of primary cracking reactions. Measured selectivities were compared with the theoretical assumptions about different reaction mechanisms probabilities based on bond dissociation energies.
