Abstract

Carbonic acid has provoked interest of chemists for many years due to its evasive nature and difficult isolation. Recently, methods of preparation of carbonic acid in its pure form, enabling one to obtain its measurable characteristics, were developed. The paper introduces some of these methods, connects carbonic acid with a large group of organic compounds and discusses a seeming inconsistency between the observed strength of carbonic acid and theoretic computations based on its structure.
