Abstract

This review summarizes the information on the reactivity of dialkyl carbonates with C-, N-, O- and S-nucleophiles. Non-toxic dialkyl carbonates can replace hazardous acylating, alkylating and dehydrating agents such as alkyl halides, dialkyl sulfates, alkyl chloroformates, sulfonyl and acyl chlorides.
